Bay Village's founding family, the Cahoons, were strict Rhode Island Baptists. When the last of the Cahoons, Ida Maria, passed in 1917 she left the 115-acre family homestead to the City, but with strict stipulations: "That no boating, bathing, games or sports shall be permitted on said Park or property on Sunday," and also "That no intoxicating liquors shall ever be brought, sold or used upon said premises nor shall gambling in any form be permitted or allowed thereon."
That means that both the city swimming pool and the Bay Boat Club...located on Cahoon land...are closed Sundays.
