In the 1970s Rocky River's old movie house, the Beachcliff Theater (circa 1930), was gutted and turned into 50,000 square feet of specialty shops and restaurants. The topography of the site made for an interesting movie theater: you entered the building on Detroit Road, at the top of the hill, but the screen was at the bottom and the seats ran down the slope. Since being turned into shops, a small outdoor mall has grown up around it: together they share the name "Beachcliff Market Square." That's the old theater on the right. It's an attractive alternative to ordinary strip malls.
