Hazrat Maulana Hashmatullah Faridpuri, widely known as Atroshi Pir, started his spiritual career at a very early age. He was born in village named Pakuria of Jamalpur district in 1321 Bengali year in a respectable family. He lost his mother at a very early stage. He took up primary lesson in Islamic studies when he was below ten, he also studied Arabic and Persian. Then he went to Enayetpur, Sirajganj where he came in touch with great saint Hazrat Shah Sufi Khawja Enayetpuri whose family lineage traced back to Baghdad later migrated to Delhi. He was indoctrinated in the Sufi-thought of "Naqshbandiya Muzaddidiya" Brotherhood. Maulana Hashmatullah dedicated himself to the service of his spiritual teacher Shah Sufi Enayetpuri for a long period and received doctrinal viewpoint and a clearness of idea towards understanding of spiritual knowledge. He was endowed with spiritual wisdom. By virtue of his spiritual power he was capable of helping the believer in his struggle to know the ‘true-self’.
Hazrat Hashmatullah Faridpuri believed that true knowledge could be gained through mystic intuition. His highest mystical literature reveals that a true Muslim should practice and experience Union with almighty Allah. His mystic teachings have been widely embraced by his disciples. Man has the potentiality to achieve 'tajalli', the divine illumination through which he can awaken his latent Soul and control his egocentric nafs (self) so as to attain the compassion of Allah.
He became a reformer and also the founder of the Naqshbandya-Mujaddidia brotherhood at this Islamic century. He established his hermitage at Atroshi in Faridpur about 50 years ago that became a large institution attracting a huge number of followers all over the country. He died at the age of 90 in the year 2001 and buried in Zaker Manzil Complex, Atroshi. He left behind two sons, three daughters and a host of followers throughout the country to mourn his death.
