The mine was located by Thomas P. Neet in 1877 and the patented lode claim area is outlined by the polygon. After the nearby Madre mine, it was one of the principal mines in the area until 1883. Later in 1885, the owners of the mine built a ten-stamp mill in El Rio, or what would later become Winterhaven, to lower costs associated with processing the ore. After going idle in 1894, interest in the mine was renwed in 1936 when ore left behind was processed using the gold cyanidination process to recover what was left.
