This is the first house we lived in when we moved to Okinawa in 1963, Across the street there are 2 "turtle back tombs" You can't tell by looking at this map, but the street leading to the house followed a ridge with drop offs on both sides. Along both sides of this ridge were many more tombs dug into the soft sandstone. One of these, on the north side had a war hero buried there. I do not know his story but they would come out on Memorial Day and give him full Military honors and a 21 gun salute.
