The Maspalomas Space Centre was established in 1960 by NASA for tracking Mercury and Gemini spacecraft. It also tracked the Apollo, Apollo-Soyuz, and Skylab missions. The station has belonged to Instituto Nacional de Tecnica Aerospacial (INTA) since 1975.
