Founded in 1939 by Alf Engen (the father of the American powder technique), Bogus Basin is one of America's only non-profit, publicly owned ski resorts. Bogus Basin has 2600 acres (1052 hectares) of mixed runs, bowls, and glades, with 900 acres (364 hectares)
groomed. The resort currently operates 7 chairlifts and one Magic Carpet, along with night skiing on limited areas.
Members of the U.S. Ski Team from Bogus Basin include Jeret "Speedy" Peterson (freestyle aerials), the 2005 World Cup champion, and Dane Spencer (giant slalom) have skied here.
