  • Mirbat Castle is the site of a relatively unknow, but significant, battle. In July of 1972, the British Special Air Service (SAS)repelled a much larger force of Adoo guerillas during the Dhofar Rebellion. During the battle, the SAS used the famous British 25-pounder artillery piece. It was basically one of the last times this piece was used after many years of service. That artillery piece is now in the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolich near London.
