Since the inception in 1300 Tripura Era /1890 AD by Maharaja Birchandra Manikya the Agartala The school was developed by the Maharaja Radhakishore Manikya, when he acceded to the throne in 1896 AD. It was renamed as Umakanta academy in the year 1904 AD dated 8th 'Falguna' month in recognition of good activities of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom Sri Umakanta Das. Umakanta Academy has developed into an excellent academic society that is totally committed to human resource development and social welfare. In its 120 years of history, Umakanta Academy has acquired a special position in the academic society of Tripura with its alumni achieving prominence in various fields.
