Statue of the Civil War general (December 5, 1839 – June 25, 1876) who died at the battle of the Little Bighorn fighting a coalition of Native American tribes led by Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse.

"There is an equestrian statue of Custer in Monroe, Michigan, his boyhood home. Originally located near city hall, in the center of town, it was moved years later to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Park, a small park near the Raisin River and away from the main thoroughfares of the city. Due to lobbying by [the Gerneral's widow] Libbie Custer and others, it was eventually moved to its current location, on the corner of Monroe and Elm Streets, on the edge of downtown Monroe."
