As you leave the city heading south for the hungarian border, you will notice this low hill overgrown with grass along the road on the right hand side. It is perfectly unspectacular, yet in a way it is the grave of a good part of Bratislava's history.

The communist government built the drab, concrete high-rise block suburb of Petrzalka in 1970s(that's the bit south of Danube), there was a small village of the same name just across the river from the Old Town with vast appricot orchards sprawling all the way into Austria. This nice little village was obviously bulldozed away to make space for the New Petrzalka... and the rubble from the old village was burried right here.

  • Yes the artificial hill is made out of rubble but not of the old settlement. It was the left over material from the hig-blocks that were stored here. And another thing is that the old village that was in the place of new petrzalka was never destroyed. It's still there!!!!
