Hilsea Lido (Portsmouth)

United Kingdom / England / Portsmouth
swimming pool, movie / film / TV location

Built in 1935, Hilsea Lido's future is now looking decidedly shaky. Despite being popular with local residents it has been deemed "surplus to requirements" by Portsmouth City Council. At the time of writing a number of applications to preserve the Lido have been rejected, and plans have been put forward to demolish the Lido and replace it with a sports centre and Olympic sized pool.

The 1975 Ken Russell adaption of The Who's 1969 rock opera 'Tommy' was partly filmed here, starring Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, Keith Moon, Oliver Reed and Jack Nicholson. The swimming pool of Bernie's Holiday Camp was the Hilsea Lido, on Portsea Island, Portsmouth.
