Site of the "infamous" Helotes mulch fire. This 400 foot long mulch pile caught fire on Dec 23, 2006. Numerous state and local agencies have fought over the solution to put out the fire without harming the Edwards Aquifier below. The smell of burning mulch wafted throughout San Antonio and surrounding areas for months as the pile slowly burned.
