church, cemetery, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places
Built 1859, dedicated by Bishop Frederic Baraga in 1860. The building was stabilized and re-dedicated in July 2008. The churchyard is also a cemetery for some of the original inhabitants of Bear Creek Township and later, Petoskey. However, there are no written records of the burials. Markers in the church yard are to denote the existence of the cemetery, although not specific gravesites.
The building faces the lake shore, not West Lake Street. When the church was built, the primary mode of transportation was by boat. Arriving churchgoers would beach their craft to attend services here.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
