This place is believed to be a holy. It is related to the history of Manipur. Thambalnu was a young lady from Yairipok in Thoubal District. It was believed that there was a flood in the Kangleipak (now known as Manipur). To control the Flood it was predicted by the mythology to scrifice animal that subfix(ending) name should be "NU". So, she was put into the water of Imphal River to stop the overflow of water.
