In 1897, this school was founded and named in memory of Dr. Robert Hungerford, who died of yellow fever contracted while treating black Americans who had been abandoned by local white doctors during an epidemic in Louisiana. The school is in Eatonville, Florida, which was the nation's first incorporated black community.
