The harbour at Murray’s Bay originated from a timber jetty that was constructed in the early 1940's, during World War II, for off-loading coastal defence guns. The harbour was reconstructed and extended in 1956. In the mid 1980's the SA Navy Construction Division carried out repair work on the breakwaters using one cubic meter (2.4 ton) concrete cubes as armour units. In 1993/4 the harbour entrance was deepened and the fendering upgraded; upgrading of the secondary breakwater and main quay was done in 1995/6.
