The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a circular tunnel 27 km in circumference. The tunnel is buried around 50 to 175 meters underground. It straddles the Swiss and French borders on the outskirts of Geneva.

Geneva, 10 September 2008: The first beam in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN1 was successfully steered around the full 27 kilometres of the world’s most powerful particle accelerator. This historic event marks a key moment in the transition from over two decades of preparation to a new era of scientific discovery.

  • All the engineers & scientists in the world are very much exited & waiting for the results for the in next 29 days, as its one of the biggest experiment ever being conducted in history We all should appreciate who r in the project & the members supporting the project. As humans we all should fell proud being the most intelligent animal in the universe, as not yet proved man kind exists in other planets.
  • The world thankfully did not end at 08:30 GMT on the 10th September 2008 as some people had joked about beforehand. The time is now 16:39 and our planet is still standing, and instead what is the greatest experiment ever has begun, and would expand our knowledge of the Universe. We might fight each other and damage the environment but indeed we have things to be proud of.
