Laoying Fortress is situated on the northern bank of Guanhe River, about 40 km (25 miles) east of Pianguan County. Famous for the crucial military position, it connects the Pianguan Pass in the west and Ningwuguan Pass in the east. There are three gates in Laoyingbao, with two stone tablets hanging inside and outside of each. The Great Wall outside Laoyingbao was constructed in 1544 and reconstructed in 1601, but was later destroyed.
