At one time, this was the site of the tallest building in Frederick. A twelve-story brick building, which housed massive fermenters used to make weapons-grade anthrax and its spores for possible use by the US military. After President Nixon ended the Army biological weapons program, it was boarded up and abandoned. Massively scary-looking, it loomed over the other buildings at NIH. It was finally decontaminated and torn down in 2004. Its footprint was paved over, and it is now a parking lot.
