power station, nuclear power plant
The Nuclear power station Kalinin Russian: Калининская АЭС is about 200 kilometres (120 mi) northwest of Moscow in the Tver Oblast (region) near the town of Udomlya. Owner and operator of the nuclear power station is the national enterprise Rosenergoatom. The nuclear power station covers the majority of the electricity needs of the Twer region, and beyond that, some of the demands for Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Vladimir. In 2005 the nuclear power station fed 17.3 TWh (62,000 TJ) into the grid. The two cooling towers that are each 150 metres (490 ft) tall are visible from far away and were manufactured in 96 concrete sections each.
