In 1730-1735 Paul Vincent Prince von Mannsfeld-Fondi built on the site of an older Gothic palace one of the most beautiful rococo palaces in Prague, designed by the architect Franz Ignatz Pree, with interiors painted by Giovanni Battista Zaist and Pietro Scotti. At the time of the Battle of Prague and subsequent siege by the Prussians in May and June of 1757, this palace served as the headquarters of the Austrian Field-Marshal Ulysses Maximilian von Browne, who died here on 26 June 1757 of wounds suffered during the battle.
