BC Hydro Whatshan power project. The original development was designed and constructed by the British Columbia Power Commission and came into service in 1951. A 12-metre high concrete dam was built at the south end of Whatshan Lake, and a 3.4-km tunnel connects Whatshan Lake with the powerhouse on Arrow Lake.

In 1953 a rock and mud slide destroyed the original powerhouse and switchyard. Following slope stabilizing, the plant was rebuilt. In 1969, Arrow Lake levels were raised following completion of the Hugh Keenleyside Dam. The Whatshan generating station was rebuilt at its present location in 1972 at an elevation 12 metres higher than the previous powerhouse.

The powerhouse contains one Francis turbine with a rated output of 50 MW.
