NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, interesting place
This restaurant was originally built as a farmhouse for the family of Joseph Denton, a descendant of a founder of the town, in 1795. In the 1860s, it was converted into a Georgian-style mansion, with gingerbread ornamentation and two large brick chimneys. McDonald's had purchased the property with the intention of demolishing the home and building their own structure. Their efforts were met with resistance from the local community who had the building made into a Town of North Hempstead landmark. The interior was gutted and the exterior porch was given glass walls. It was featured by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a notable adaptive reuse conversion.
