Owatonna is a city in Steele County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 22,434 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Steele County.
Owatonna was first settled along the Straight River in 1854, platted in 1855, incorporated as a town in 1858, and as a city in 1865. The post office was established in 1855.
The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad served Owatonna from 1866 until 1985, with a line now operated by the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern.
