In 1894, the Lancashire Asylums Board commissioned a new asylum to be built on the 207 acre Winwick Rectory Estate. Winwick Asylum - later Winwick Hospital- opened in 1902.

  • Now this site is home to some beautiful homes as the former Winwick park "Looney bin" closed in the late 1990's!
  • As the recent home of ex-Atomic Kitten, and 'Quuen of the Jungle' Kerry Katona, the term 'Loony Bin' is still technically correct.
