ROF Risley, (Filling Factory No.6) was a large World War II Royal Ordnance Factory filling munitions, including the Grand Slam bomb. Hastily built in 18 months and operational in September 1940 the former site covered 927-acres (3.75 km2. The factory buildings were reused in 1946 to house the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authourity at the start of the nuclear age.
