October 13 & 14, 1863. At the start of General Lee's Bristoe Campaign, JEB Stuart's cavalry got trapped and had to hide overnight to escape detection and send for help. They hid in a ravine beside Pembridge Lane -- 3000 men plus horses, wagons and artillery. They extricated themselves at the second battle (aka Coffee Hill) and escaped west to Lee's main army.
