Known as Dogtown until 1903-04, the company town of Caldor was the location of the California Door Company mill and was the eastern terminus for the Diamond and Caldor Railroad. The company maintained a logging camp, complete with kitchen and dining room, cabins for loggers and hospital. After the 1923 fire destroyed the mill, the company built a new mill in Diamond springs, adjacent to the existing sash and door factory. Caldor door was used as a reload point after that. A CCC camp was located here in the late 1930s.
