This is the original location of the Watsonville airport, which opened in 1931. During WWII, it was leased by the US Navy for use as an antisubmarine base supporting NAS Moffett. Typical operations consisted of one to two K-ships from NAS Moffett's ZP-32. The airships were used for 12-hour antisubmarine patrols, escorting convoys, and assisting with air-sea rescues. The Navy returned both of its Watsonville properties in 1945, and the larger of the airfields to the north became the new Watsonville municipal airport. In 1947, this 83-acre property was sold to Edwin and Flora Peterson, who used it as a feed lot for cattle. Today, the property is used by Diamond Organics.
