  • Constructed in 1976 by a Belgian company for phosphate ore concentration for fertilizer. Ore source was the Akashat Phosphate Mine further west. Belgian company Mebshem was commissioned to build a uranium ore extraction facility at the site and completed it in 1984. The uranium was extracted from phosphoric acid and yeilded liquid uranium peroxide. The plant was completely destroyed by aerial bombing in 1991 in the Persian Gulf War and has since been partially rebuilt.
