 bandstand, terrorist attack, memorial plaque

On 20 July, 1982, an IRA bomb exploded beneath this bandstand during a performance by the Royal Green Jackets military bandsmen. Seven bandsmen were killed in front of an audience of 120 people, and eight civilians were injured. The attack took place two hours after a similar explosion in Hyde Park that killed four soldiers.

A memorial plaque is located on the base of the bandstand in memory of those killed.
