The Church of the Holy Cross (Vilnius)

The history of the church begins in 1543 when Lutsk bishop Paulius Alšėniškis (polish: Paweł Holszański) built a chapel in supposed martyr place of Fransiscan in 1345. In 1635 Vilnius bishop Abraomas Voina (polish: Abraham Woyna) setled monks Brothers Hospitallers of St. John of God and granted them a church with buildings. Stone house was turned into church. The church seriously sufferered from 1737 fire, when only walls remained. Year ago after 1748 fire the church was rebuilt, facade and towers were changed. In 1909 church was repaired. The church was closed in 1949. In 1976 so called Minor Baroque hall was established, church building was used for concerts. Since 1995 church buildings were disposed to Sisters of Congregation of Blessed Virgin Mary.
