Renewable energy as Biogas Production from trickle irrigated crops using marginal sewage water resources at Atacama Desert in Chile, town of El Salvador, borough of Diego de Almagro, Province of Chanaral, III Region of Atacama is being researched since 2008. Altitude is 2200 meters above sea level, near Ojos del Salado mountains and salty lakes rich in boron and others. Trickle irrigation has been a common practice for crops in Northern Chile. Crops among tested are Adesmia -a legume-, Sugar Beet - tuber and shoots - , Barley, Red Beet, Nolana, Atriplex (ID to be verified), Opuntia, Swiss chard, Squash, Cistanthe and Aptenia.

The production of methane until now has been variable at the lab level. In the field, we have had some biogas production indicated by positive tests using sensors for hydrogen sulfide H2S, carbon monoxide CO, oxygen O2 and fuel LEL or flammability limits. We are optimizing the digestor with a heating equipment based on self produced biogas, solar and conventional energy.
