19th century stone gothic church by B.W.Mountfort. Damaged in earthquake of 22 feb 2011.
The foundation stone was laid in November 1873 by William Rolleston Superintendent of Canterbury, and the building was opened for worship in January 1875.
The last services were held here in October 1969 after which the congregation merged with that of st Paul's in Madras Street and the building was sold.
