The State Flag Pole (Ipoh)

Malaysia / Perak / Ipoh

Carrying the state flag under the blue sky, this is the tallest flag pole in Ipoh, and the third tallest in the whole of Malaysia (as of 2010). The flag is made of three equal horizontal bands coloured white (top), yellow (middle), and black (bottom). The three colours represent the three branches of the royal family whereby the throne is shared in rotation. The white symbolises the Sultan, the yellow is the colour of the Raja Muda (the first in line to the Perak throne), and the black is the colour of the Raja Di Hilir (the second in line).

This flag pole was built at a cost of RM349,000. Due to its high cost, the construction of this flag pole was heavily criticized by the general public. The State Government hit back to the people saying that this flag pole is the most advanced flag pole ever built in the country. It is said that this flag pole have a motorized motor to plug the flag up. It is also said that the flag pole can protect the people playing in the Ipoh Padang during tropical thunderstorms. Being so tall, it's like a lightning conductor so lightning would strike it instead of people.
