The Angitola Valley, the wide basin of the river "Angitola", lies along the western slope of the Serre mountains at the mid Calabrian Tyrrhenian coast.

It is a seductive landscape, typically Mediterranean, consisting of rolling hills, rugged mountains and flat plains stretching toward the sea. From the luxuriant mountain ridges numerous streams descend toward the lake "Lago dell' Angitola".

The happy integration of natural and cultural beauties, the balmy and moderate climate - with average minimum temperature in winter of 8°C(46°F) -, and the absence of wide urban and industrial areas bestow upon this region a unique character. The area is easily accessible from highways and railway lines as well as from ports of call and the airport at Lamezia.

The valley has a rich history. It has seen the rise and fall of the Greek and Roman empires, the assertion of the Byzantines, and the spread of the Islamic and several northern European cultures. It has experienced artistic expression that is still present in the form of archeological sites, historical districts, and noble architecture. Other aspects of the area are the uncontaminated features of the rural landscape as well as ancient trails, one being the "Royal Road" that leads to the iron mines of the Bourbons.
