Located in the central part of the Transcarpathian region. The district has 47 towns. 90% of the population are rural residents, 98.1% - Ukrainians, (0.9) Russians, Hungarians (0.3), Slovaks (0.3).
The highest peak is Mount Buszhora area (1081 m). Most of the area lies in the valley Borszhava in the foothills of the Carpathians.
