The name of the town comes from the Bicskei (or Bikcsei, later Bicskey) family, which was the determinant possessor of the village until the middle of the 19th century. The town is about 60 kms from Budapest. The most important day of the history of Tápióbicske was on the 4 April 1849, during the spring military campaign, when in the village and at the bridge of the Upper-Tápió towards Nagykáta, the Hungarian army fighting for the independence of the country won victory over the Austrians. The battle is re-enacted every year on the same date.
