This is an enormous snowfield that lies on the Mont Blanc Massif. It is the source of the Mer-de-Glace Glacier. One can cross high above this snowfield on the Vallée Blanche Aerial Tramway ("Panoramique") from Aiguille du Midi station, high above Chamonix in France and Point Helbronner on the border with Italy.
