Carr House is an interpretative centre for the celebrated Canadian artist Emily Carr.Built in 1864 by Englishman Richard Carr, this Italianate wood frame house was the childhood home of Canadian artist and author Emily Carr. Emily was born in the house on December 12, 1871 and died in 1945 just two blocks from where she was born. During her life she developed a unique artistic style, inspired by the west coast landscape and the First Nations art and culture. Her childhood home has been restored by the B.C. Heritage Branch and is furnished as it might have been when Emily was a girl. Carr House is noted for its People's Gallery which alternatively exhibits original works of art by Emily Carr and contemporary Canadian artists.Interactive, hands-on programming, school tours focussing on Emily Carr, musical events, poetry readings, and other cultural events are the highlights of Carr House's programming. The annual Emily Carr Festival of the Arts celebrates the life, art, and writings of Canada's greatest artist. Adult group tours and special events are welcome at Carr House.
