Dune Park NICTD Station

USA / Indiana / Porter / U.S. Route 12 (Indiana), 33 E
 train station, park and ride

This is the Dune Park station of the commuter railroad line operated by NICTD, formerly known as "The Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad." As the name suggests, it travels from Chicago (Randolph Street "Millennium Park" Station) to the South Bend, Indiana (Airport) station. It is used by many commuters during rush hour periods in the morning and afternoon to commute to and from Chicago. It is also a very easy way to reach downtown Chicago from northern Indiana if driving is not for you. Many of the main sites of Chicago are well within walking distance of one of the many stops along the way. See website for details. The train is also referred to as "The Silver Snail," the Vomit Comet. It is fun for children and less stressful than driving for many adults.

The station has a station house, a parking lot and one side platform for both directions. The bulk of the station house building is taken up by NICTD administrative headquarters. V-Line bus system's Orange Line Route stops here, linking to station to Valparaiso University. V-Line also operates a shuttle to Valparaiso Village Station (a former rail depot) that stops here during the evening hours.
