Merir

Palau / Sonsorol / Dongosaru /

Merir or Melieli is a small outlying island of the Palau group, in the western Pacific Ocean. The island was home to five people in 2000. The island itself is covered with a luxuriant growth of trees but it is surrounded by a beach around which is a lagoon. Outside this, the whole is surrounded by a coral reef and the open ocean. The main village is in the north-west of the island and has a radio station. Together with the islands of Sonsorol and Fanna, which are 110 km. to the north-west, and the island of Pulo Anna 50 km away, Merir forms the state of Sonsorol in the repuplic of Palau.
