The LVRRs Ithaca Station saw its last passenger train in February 1961. For many years the flagship train called "The Black Diamond" ran through here on its way from NY to Buffalo, as well as LVRR's "Maple Leaf" to Toronto and the "Star" overnight service. The station itself was built in 1898 in a Classical Revival style and featured a large central passenger waiting area and large baggage/freight house for passenger parcels.

LVRR ceased all passenger services in on its rails in 1961, leaving the station without a use though it continued to be used for division offices for a time before LVRR closed it for good in 1963. It was sold to a local interest thereafter and became "The Station Restaurant", and even had with a string of former LVRR dining cars and the former switching engine from the LVRRs Ithaca yard alongside the former platform. The restaurant operated until 2005 and the building subsequently became a branch of the Chemung Canal Trust bank.
