Horsley will always be remembered for building the first movie studio in Hollywood, Christie Comedies, on the Northwest corner of Sunset and Gower (most recently CBS Studio Center). He also owned the land that eventually became Universal city, when he merged his company with several other small firms to form Universal Pictures.

Horsley was born in the County Durham, England, on March 11, 1873. He died February 23, 1933, just 49 years from the time of his coming to America
