An elementary school located at 5095 Arvinels Ave. in northern San Diego. Together with James Madison High School and Ray Kroc Middle School (formerly Albert Einstein Jr. High), MacDowell educated the children of personnel living on-base at Miramar (at least that was the case in the 1970s - that may have changed).

  • McDowell closed many years ago. It was used as an annex by inner city schools for years, then the site for Creative and Performing Media Arts Middle School, a Magnet school. There may have been other uses along the way. Presently, it is the home of iMiddle. (see next paragraph) Recently, CPMA Middle moved to the Kroc Middle site and the Kroc students who did not want to attend CPMA Middle were moved to the empty McDowell site to form a new school. The Kroc name was dropped and renamed INNOVATION MIDDLE SCHOOL or IMiddle. Kroc no longer exists as a site or a name. Madison is still with us, however, although a shadow of its former self and now one of the smallest schools in the district. Lots of changes in Clairemont over the years. And more to come in the next few years.
