Palazzo Cenci Maccarani di Brazzà (Roma)

Vatican City / Roma / Piazza del Gesù

Palazzo Maccarani/Palazzo Maccarani Odescalchi (Palazzo Cenci Maccarani di Brazzà) was built in 1535 by G.Romano for Cristoforo Cenci, on the site of some houses that previously belonged to another noble family. In the epoch of Cenci's criminal trial, the palace was confiscated by pope and in the 18th century passed to the Maccarani. In the beginning of the 20th century the future pope Benedict XV, cardinal Giacomo Della Chiesa, lived here.

In part influenced by Bramante's Palazzo Caprini but more likely Rafaello's nearby Caffarelli Vidoni. Named because in 1786, the palace belonged to the Marchese Maccarani.
