barrow/tumulus/burial mound, scheduled ancient monument
Constructed of soil and orientated NW-SE, it is 103ft long, 30ft wide at the east end, 25 ft at the west end and 4 ft high. Excavations revealed five disarticulated inhumations deposited on the natural surface along the medial line, the first being 15ft and the last 23 1/2ft, from the E end. A flint flake and some stones were possibly associated with one of the inhumations; a flint flake was found near another inhumation. Known as Over Silton Long Barrow to Greenwell when its situation now in Kepwick Parish, was originally in Over Silton.
