Wood-Rill Scientific & Natural Area (SNA) is part of Wolsfeld Woods, part of the "Big Woods" that once covered much of the Twin Cities in a vast ecosystem that once covered 2,000 square miles of Minnesota. It has walking trails and leashed dogs are allowed.

The vast majority of land was gifted to the state by Bruce and Ruth Dayton (one of his ex-wives); Bruce Dayton is grandson of the founder of Dayton's (now Target Corporation) and the father of Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton, who grew up on their property here. Bruce Dayton still has sections of property adjacent to the Natural Area, including his main property to the west.
