Mount Rinjani National Park is ecosystem with mountainous rain forest and savanna located on the island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. On the mountain crater (2.800 m asl) there is a large lake [1100 ha] formed during volcanic activity in the Pleistocene era [<1.8 million years ago], with beautiful scenery. The lake is called Lake Segara Anak (=Little Sea, from Sasak language). The depth of the lake is estimated around 160 m - 230 m. The lake water temperature varied from the other side to the other side. The water of the lake have very strong sulfur smell. In the middle of the lake Segara Anak emerged a new mountain called Mount Baru Jari. This mountain is believed to grow high each year.
The park have a wide variety of flora, like: nettle (Laportea stimulant), Dedurenan (Aglaea argentea), Bayur (Pterospermum javanicum), Banyan (Ficus benjamina), Jambu-jambuan (Syzygium sp), Keruing (Dipterocarpus hasseltii), Rerau (D. imbricatus), Mountain pine (Casuarina Junghuniana), Eidelweis (Anaphalis javanica) and several kinds of endemic forests orchids like Perisstylus Rinjaniensis and Perisstylus Lombokensis. While the variety of fauna are: Rinjani Weasel (Paradoxurus Hemaprhoditus Rinjanicus), Deer (Muntiacus muntjak Nainggolani), ebony leaf monkey (Trachypithecus Auratus Kohlbruggei), Aardvark (Sweet Javanicus), Horn Cikukua bird (Philemon Buceroides Neglectus), Dawah Forest (Ducula Lacernulata Sasakensis), orioles nape Black (Oriolus chinensis Broderipii) and several species of reptiles plus a number of freshwater fish species that live in the lake Segara Anak, like Mujair and carp.
